The Monk’s Crocodile

Once upon a time, there lived two crocodiles in Mekong River. One was guardian spirit’s crocodile named Sopor Keley Who was good at challenging because of her big size. The other named Ourey who was belonging to the monk. It lived at the port of Mohaleap pagoda in Koh soten district. Ourey did love the monk who always offered he food everyday. She always helped giving the monk a lift on her back to beg for food or to recite the Buddhist treatise. The two big crocodiles had never met each other. One night, the guardian spirit’s crocodile had heard the talking of two fishermen. They said, “How big Sopor Keley is! Ourey is bigger than her; just the length of her head was seven time of the distance from finger tips to elbow.” She was furious with these words and anxious to challenge with Ourey. One day, while Ourey was giving the monk a lift to beg for food, Sopor Keley suddenly appeared and boasted to challenge with her. Ourey couldn’t find place to place the monk; she then swallowed him and started fighting. After fighting, the monk’s crocodile killed Sopor Kelley. Then, she split the monk out of her mouth, but he had already died. This made Ourey regret and so sad. When the public was cremating this monk, she crawled into fire and died at that time.

Moral Values
. Fighting always results in destruction
. Don’t be so greedy.
