Name the various species of avocet ?

Avocets are wading birds which can be identified by their long, upward-curving beaks. They are handsome birds, with contrasting plumage of black and white. They have long blue-grey legs and a long drak upturned bill.

Avocets truly are waders, feeding in relatively deep water. In deep water they may reach the bottom by upending themselves like ducks. Also as in ducks, their feet are webbed.

Four species of vavocet are found in temperate and tropical regions around the world.

1. Eurasian species

2. American species

3. Australasian species

4. Andean species

most avocets nest in colonies, because of their conspicuous plumage.
